Parnell Train Station

The Parnell Train Station is a planned train station in Parnell, Auckland, New Zealand. It is located on the Auckland–Newmarket Line (which serves the Western and Southern line of the Auckland rail network.

The station is proposed to be located in the Waipapa Valley between Parnell and the Auckland Domain, some distance north of the Parnell Tunnel, and to integrate it with some of the historic Mainline Steam buildings (former Railway Workshops).[1]

After a plan to lease part of the proposed area for the future train station as a bus depot was cancelled,[2] KiwiRail and Auckland Council were asked by the outgoing Auckland Regional Council to make an early start on the proposal that is to cost $13 million or more. This would help ensure that there would not need to be any costly extra work after the line is electrified as part of the Auckland railway electrification in the coming years.[3] It has been proposed that several millions saved during the construction of the Newmarket Train Station upgrade be allocated to this new station.[2]

The works required would involve approximately $5.5 million to regrade the rail tracks, and further expenses to improve local access to the station, both from Parnell and the Auckland Domain / Auckland CBD side. The old heritage station building of the Newmarket Train Station, removed as part of the modern upgrade of that station, is proposed to be installed at the new stop.[3]
